Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins fans are supposed to despise one another, not love each other.
Just don’t tell that to a newlywed couple that put their sports allegiances aside and decided to tie the knot.
Andy Cole, a Canucks fan who’s a prominent voice in the hockey Twitter world, is known for his hilarious videos and witty takes, and is a common find on BarDown posts.
After a woman with the Twitter handle @stupidsexybruin started replying to his funny tweets, Andy eventually found her Instagram account, and the two started talking after about a year of unanswered dialogue, according to Daily Hive Vancouver.
“She tried to contact me a couple of different ways, through Instagram and through Twitter, and because I’m an idiot and oblivious to women I just didn’t really touch base with her,” Cole explained to Daily Hive’s Rob Williams.
“I never responded to her much during that one-year period until finally I guess I started looking at some of her Instagram pictures and was like ‘hey this girl’s kind of cute – she’s a Bruins fan so she’s not perfect – but she’s attractive.’’
Courtney and Andy started talking regularly online before finally meeting each other, and the rest, they say, is history. The two fell madly in love, and then Andy did the unthinkable: The Canucks fan proposed to the Bruin fan, and the two got married while wearing their respective jerseys in an adorable manner.
Most people would want a special location, with all the wedding necessities like a big cake, but not these two. Instead, 15 wedding guests showed up to Andy’s Kamloops, B.C., apartment with some chosing to wear their favourite team’s sports uniforms.
“I think everybody liked it because you didn’t have to wear a tux or a dress, it was just very casual,” Courtney told Daily Hive. “That’s just how we wanted it. I know I didn’t want to get in a big old dress.”
After the two made it official, the newlyweds and their entourage went out to a local bar for some chicken wings before taking in a little WHL action. Courtney, who hails from Washington State, grew up a Tri-City Americans fan. The team was in Kamloops to take on the Blazers, and just like the 2011 Staney Cup Final, Courtney’s club came out on top with a 4-1 victory.
As the old saying goes, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!
No word on whether the wedding ring had a Bruins logo on it or not.
Congratulations to the Cole’s!
