The U-18 Championship is a great way to get a taste of what’s to come in the world of hockey. Not only does it showcase some of the top talent, but it showcases them by nationality to better illustrate where the future powerhouses of hockey will lie.

That being the case, Canada should be excited about 16-year-old Alex Lafreniere. With comparisons of superstar Sidney Crosby being made, you know there’s a lot of promise. While he may not quite fill the shoes of a superstar like Crosby, you can bet that he’s got to potential to be a huge building block for a team someday.

Need proof? Here it is. During play against the promising young American squad, Lafreniere – sporting Canada’s red and white – dangled his way past defenders to score a wicked highlight reel goal.

With the 2020 draft just a couple years away, you can bet some rebuilding teams will be licking their chops after seeing that one.
