Laurent Duvernay-Tardif wasn’t a long enough title.

Dr. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif. Ahhh, that’s better.

Duvernay-Tardif, who has started 38 games as a guard for the Kansas City Chiefs, earned his medical degree from McGill on Tuesday, becoming the first NFLer to do so while playing in the league.

The incredible feat of dedication completes a long balancing act Duvernay-Tardif had been playing out.

As a result of his degree, the veteran lineman wants to display the new title on his jersey. In the same way that some players put “Jr.” or “IV” as part of their nameplate, Duvernay-Tardif wants “M.D.” or “Dr.” While it seems sort of strange because it’s never been done before, that’s because it’s never been possible before as Duvernay-Tardif will be the first doctor to suit up in NFL gear.

Who can blame him for wanting to show off such an impressive accomplishment?
