Buddy Hield is at a great place in his career. Entering his 3rd season, Hield has tremendous potential to grow into one of the league’s dominating guards. The sharpshooter is reportedly working on a new deal, and it sounds like he’s going to get paid.
Not a bad time for Buddy on the basketball court, but off the court is where his focus is at right now.
A native of the Bahamas, Hield is heavily involved with the relief efforts after Hurricane Dorian tore through the country. Hield, along with fellow Bahamian De’Andre Ayton, donated $100,000 to the cause, and also helped to raise approximately double that through a GoFundMe page.
Even though he’s no longer living there, Hield knows it’s important to support his roots – he’s been in the situation before.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Hield explains why it’s important for people to keep supporting the cause, and to not let the feeling fall to the backburner.
The videos seem unreal until you really get to see [the destruction]. But I know from being there as a kid, when the hurricanes hit, it was never how it used to be [afterward]. When the storms hit, we go back four or five years because the resources aren’t there and the hotels aren’t making enough money. Everything is pushed back, so we never could get back to where we once were.
The Sacramento Kings have also raised $100,000 as the whole franchise rallies with Hield leading the way.
