Jeff Skinner has had a serviceable season, scoring 7 goals and total 15 points over 22 games. That would be decent production if it wasn’t for the absolutely ridiculous price tag attached to him.

Skinner is in the third year of an eight-year, $72 million contract that carries an AAV of $9 million. That makes him the 24th highest paid player in the league, ahead of guys like Sidney Crosby, Steven Stamkos, Leon Draisaitl, Victor Hedman, and Nathan MacKinnon.

Skinner is widely considered to have one of the worst contracts in the NHL currently.

On Monday, Seattle Kraken forward Brandon Tanev decided to take advantage of the low-hanging fruit. During the broadcast, hot microphones picked up Tanev chirping Skinner about the contract.

Ruthless!

For what it’s worth, Skinner had already scored two goals in the game, so he actually produced like a $9 million player in this particular game. Saying that, Tanev also scored one and added two assists on top of it.
