The countdown for John Tavares is on and it appears the Toronto Maple Leafs are interested in his services.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie reported earlier today that IF, and we repeat IF the Islanders fail to re-sign their captain, the Leafs will be putting together a promotional video to try and lure him in. Darren Dreger also reported that Tavares could meet with 3-5 teams next week if an extension is still not reached.
Let’s do some brainstorming. What exactly would have to be included in this video to convince JT to come? Do the Leafs have Matthews, Nylander, Marner and Hyman form a quartet and produce a music video together? Or do they just have Marner and Hyman talk about the benefits of playing for your hometown team?
The Leafs might have some serious decisions to make.
The Isles seems to be doing everything they can to keep their prize. After firing general manager Garth Snow and head coach Doug Weight, the organization hired Lou Lamoriello to take over duties as the new GM and President of Hockey Operations. With Barry Trotz now on the market, will the team make a move for the Stanley Cup coach in an effort to strengthen their case?
Free agency officially kicks off on July 1 and if Tavares chooses to leave, the Leafs and a whole bunch of other teams will surely be pitching him all sorts of offers.
