Bianca Andreescu had a couple of goals upon entering 2019, and with the benefit of hindsight, they seem a bit ridiculous. Then again, she just shocked the world by winning the US Open against Serena Williams at 19 years of age, so isn’t it all a bit surreal?

Andreescu has officially climbed up to No. 5 in the rankings, and there’s still plenty of year to go. It’s crazy to consider just where she began the year, with a No. 152 ranking — all she wanted was to get inside the top-100 this year! Well, she’s certainly accomplished that, and then some.

When she’s in the No. 1 spot in December, we’ll all look back at this and say that once again, Andreescu set her goals too low!

While she’s within striking distance of No. 3 Elina Svitolina and No. 4 Naomi Osaka, there actually is a good amount of distance between Andreescu and the top two. If she continues to play like this, then there isn’t any amount of distance that she couldn’t make up, but it will at least take some time.

Right now, though, we don’t think Andreescu is losing any sleep over rankings. She started from the bottom and now she’s top-five. When you have as many title wins as losses in the calendar year, what’s to worry about?
