She the North! After winning her first major title at the US Open against Serena Williams, Bianca Andreescu’s absurd rise to stardom this year has reached new heights. At just 19 years old, she’s already the first Canadian to ever win a major singles tournament — it’s crazy to think she began the year ranked 152nd.

How ridiculous has her rise in 2019 been? Well, you can’t argue with the results so far — she has a 45-4 record this year and as many title wins as total losses so far.

Let’s review.

Andreescu won her first title of the year at Newport Beach in the second-tier WTA 125K series. Her first WTA Tour title came at Indian Wells and that one really put her on the map, bringing her ranking up to No. 24. While she then struggled with injury through much of clay-court season, she came back in a big way at the Canadian Open in Toronto; Serena retired early in the first finals meeting between the two for Andreescu’s second Premier title.

And, of course, here we are now: Andreescu’s first Grand Slam singles title. Not bad for somebody who began her year chasing 125K titles! She has only dropped matches this year to (in chronological order) Julia Gorges, Anastasija Sevastova, Sofia Kenan and, due to injury, Anett Kontaveit. We’ll add, too, that she’s 8-0 against top-10 opponents.

You wouldn’t need the entire chronology to know this much, though: Bianca is killing it. Keeping up this kind of pace won’t be easy, but it’s safe to say that Canadians are going to be excited to see what’s in store for her next as she closes the distance on that No. 1 spot in the rankings.

No words for this win 👏 #SheTheNorth
