The Leafs will visit Long Island tonight to take on the New York Islanders, bring John Tavares back to the city that he played in for nine seasons.
Most people expect there to be a lot of booing and hope that it won’t go much farther than that. Of course there will probably be signs and there will be some angry fans, but there are some members of the Islanders organization and fan base that are hoping to take the high road.
Isles’ Head Coach Barry Trotz is one of them. He had a message for Islanders fans before the game.
Trotz is off to a great start with the Islanders, leading the team to first place in their division despite losing their captain and best player in the offseason.
Still, we doubt even he can convince the fan base to behave tonight. Fans definitely had this night circled on their calendar and have even made some really cringy videos about it. No matter how you feel about this situation, we’re pretty sure we can all agree that this video is brutal.
Hopefully, even if it’s negative, the Islanders can get their message across more creatively than whatever that was.
