Matthew Tkachuk has been known to get under people’s skin on the ice, but it’s not just on the ice.

Tkachuk is good friends with Auston Matthews and several other players that grew up together playing in the US junior system and they all keep in contact still – some in different ways than others. Matthews was asked about any of his favourite Tkachuk stories and he shared the fact that the Calgary youngster is notorious for sending his own highlights to everyone else.

Not the night they happen or anything, but old highlights to remind them what he’s capable of or how he beat them in the past. It’s a pretty funny tactic and he has to be one of the first players to use it as more and more highlights become available on our phones.

The teams only played each other twice last season, so neither have an NHL highlight against one another to send. Clearly there will be a little extra on the line tonight. They play again next week in Toronto and if one player happens to against the other, that highlight will probably get sent a couple times leading up to their second matchup.

Maybe Tkachuk will make like his father and dab on the Leafs if he happens to put one home tonight.
