Let the Antonio Brown drama continue.
First, the receiver reportedly threatened to retire if he couldn’t wear his classic Schutt helmet from his Steeler days. Then, an arbitrator ruled against his grievance to wear it. Later, he expressed his excitement to rejoin his teammates before offering a reward if someone could find him his preferred Schutt helmet that was made over the past 10 years. And now?
He’s claiming that he never threatened to retire in the first place.
Well, that’s an interesting development…
He does raise a good point though. How could he have possibly even thought of retiring over a helmet?! Per Spotrac, the 21-year-old is scheduled to make $50.125 million in yearly cash earnings over the next three seasons. Not to mention he’s made nearly $70 million to this point, and that’s not including endorsement deals.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Brown has found versions of his helmet that meet the age requirement for NFL use. The leagues requires helmets to meet safety standards met by the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment. Brown’s agent Drew Rosenhaus said earlier in the week that their team had located the model that was made within the last 10 years.
This whole thing has just been wild.
