Another day, another fantastic Phil Kessel sign.
‘Phil the Thrill’ is one of hockey’s more unique personalities, and his past interviews and odd encounters with the media have helped establish him as a legend in the game. The forward has broken out of his shell since joining the Pittsburgh Penguins, likely as a result of winning back-to-back titles with the team. Kessel has been the center of some of the Penguins’ more hysterical moments this season, including a hilarious incident with teammate Ryan Reaves.
The 30-year-old has grown such a large following that his name has crossed over into other sports. Earlier this year, a college football fan was spotted holding a sign that reminded people that he is a two-time Stanley Cup champion. It was Déjà vu for students and other NCAA fans today, as another Kessel sign emerged during College Gameday, this time from a Navy fan ahead of the team’s long anticipated showdown against Army.
We definitely give this sign bonus points for including both a photo of Kessel and a hot dog on it. Very nicely done.
The signs are just one of many weird things made about Phil Kessel this past year. The Penguins proceeded to make a gif of their star and a company even designed a shirt with a massive collage of him on it.
As college football heads into its annual bowl season, it will be interesting to see if other Kessel signs emerge ahead of January 8th’s BCS National Championship game. By this time next year, the sign could once again include a different number on it.
