It’s been a tough year for Patrik Laine thus far in 2021-22. Technically, he is averaging over a point per game, but when he’s only appeared in 9 games that average carries a little less weight.
Injuries are never fun, and Laine has been dealing with an oblique strain, but more importantly Laine has been dealing with heartache. Back in November, the Columbus Blue Jackets shared a message that Laine’s father had passed away.
Laine rejoined the Blue Jackets after spending time with his family, and he spoke to the media for the first time on Monday. A visibly emotional Laine discussed the impact that his father, Harri, had on him.
Patrik has always credited his father with helping him become the player he is, but his biggest impact may have come when he suggested Laine leave his original position as a goalie to play as a forward instead.
We’d say that worked out pretty well for him.
