Bayern Munich is off to the Champions League final after taking care of Lyon in a 3-0 match on Wednesday, and that means young Canadian superstar Alphonso Davies will get to add another special accolade to his list.
Davies is going to become the first Canadian Men's international to play in a Champions League final. It’s worth noting that he won’t be the first Canadian to accomplish the feat — that honour goes to Owen Hargreaves — but Davies will be the first member of the Canadian men’s national team to do so. Hargreaves was eligible to play with other countries and chose to play for England instead.
Bayern Munich is set to take on Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday’s final, which should be a fantastic match starring Davies against another young star of the game in Kylian Mbappe.
Of course, plenty of Canadian eyes will be tracking Davies in that one, including Canadian national team coach John Herdman. And, mind you, if Bayern wins the Champions League with Davies in their starting eleven, then they will owe the Vancouver Whitecaps another €1 million due to a clause in his contract.
