Game usually recognizes game, so it only makes sense to see the first overall pick from this year’s NHL draft showing some love for some of the best players in women’s hockey.
The New York Rangers’ Alexis Lafrenière won’t be suiting up for Team Canada this year’s World Juniors, but he has been spending time with his new NHL club. The Rangers posted this video of the young star in the team’s hallowed arena, and it has us excited to see Lafrenière in action.
While we’re over the moon to see this potentially generational talent under hockey’s brightest lights, we’re also excited about what he brings to the table off the ice. Lafrenière’s support for women in hockey is already apparent , and he hasn’t even played a game in the NHL yet. The 19-year-old has one of the NHL’s few female player agents, Emilie Castonguay, and today, he was showing love for the PWHPA by sporting one of the organization’s sweaters at the rink.
Gotta love that! Lafrenière showing that he supports talented people in hockey no matter their gender sets a great standard for all those growing up in the sport, and we hope that the next generation is taking note.
