Mark Borowiecki is the type of player that just isn’t around the NHL as much anymore. With a precedent being placed on speed and skill in recent years, the big-bodied, enforcer type is a fading breed.

“Boro” fits into that mold pretty well. The hulking defenceman is always near the top of the charts when it comes to stats such as penalty minutes and hits. He’s certainly not shy of throwing his weight around, he threw 364 in 2016-17 (just 18 shy of Matt Martin’s single-season record), and he’ll back up his actions to just about anyone that has a problem with it. When it comes to goals, however, maybe not so much.

In 321 career games, you can count the amount of goals Boro has scored on two hands without even using your thumbs. His eight total goals certainly don’t scream “sniper”, but he is trying to make a case otherwise nonetheless.

During Sens practice, the team had some fun with the shootout. Against all odds, Boro found himself in the final with Anthony Duclair. According to Marc Crawford, the top two would automatically be selected for the shootout if the Sens find themselves in one against the Columbus Blue Jackets in their final game of the season.

In the words of Crawford himself, “Let’s hope it doesn’t get to that point.” Saying that, he also delivered the big man a little praise.

Actually, screw it, give us Borowiecki!
