Mikhail Sergachev scored his first career playoff goal on Saturday night in the Bolts 3-1 win to eliminate the New Jersey Devils and advance to the second round of the post-season.
That wouldn’t have been possible had he not been traded last off-season from the Montreal Canadiens to the Lightning in exchange for Jonathan Drouin. That trade was put together by Lighting GM Steve Yzerman and Habs GM Marc Bergevin.
Unfortuantly for Habs fans, the only playoff hockey Bergervin was able to watch this season was down in Tampa. Wait what? Yep, you read that correctly.
The Habs finished third last in the Eastern Conference with 71 points in 82 games, and while they were unable to take in any playoff hockey, Bergevin decided to go down to Tampa to take in Game 5 of the Devils and Lightning series and see Sergachev notch his first of many playoff goals in the Bolts blue and white.
We’re not quite sure why Bergevin was inside the Amalie Arena, but perhaps Steve Yzerman felt guilty about taking a potential future No. 1 defenceman for a second-line winger? Maybe Stevie Y tossed the Habs GM a playoff ticket as a sign of appreciation for solidifying the Bolts’ blue line for years to come? Did Yzerman ask Bergervin how he was "Drouin" after the Habs' poor season? These are the important details we all seek to know.
Just imagine if the Habs kept onto Subban and Sergachev. Imagine that pair running the Habs’ powerplay.
