Kobe Bryant’s sudden death is still sending shockwaves through the sports world as we continue to try and figure out how to move forward. The tributes continue to pile in, but there was none larger than the memorial set up outside Staples Center.
In front of the house that Kobe built, fans paid their respects in a number of different ways. Pictures, flowers, and jerseys were placed in memory of the fallen legend, but perhaps most prominent was the ridiculous number of basketballs.
Now that cleanup has begun, we have a number. Apparently nearly 1,400 basketballs were recovered from the memorial.
Now that they’re collected, we aren’t sure exactly what’s going to happen with the balls. It would be cool if they were donated to one of Kobe’s various philanthropist endeavors, or even to the Kobe Bryant Gymnasium.
We also aren’t sure where the rest of the tributes will go either. Apparently it took 12 hours to clean the whole site up.
Kobe will forever be missed.
