Is there a greater honour in sports than getting a statue erected in your name?

Probably not. It’s the ultimate gesture of respect and immortalization, and it’s exactly the honour that was earned by the WNBA’s reigning MVP, A’ja Wilson

Before her lucrative WNBA career with the Las Vegas Aces, Ja was a star for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks from 2014-2018. She led the team to their first Women's Final Four in 2015, their first NCAA title in 2017, and was a three-time SEC player of the year and a three-time first-team All-American, which all lead to her first overall selection in the 2018 WNBA draft.

The school erected an eleven foot tall bronze state in her honour this past week, and yesterday on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, she gave a speech that will stop you in your tracks.

What an amazing message from Wilson, who reminds us of how far we’ve come, but how much work we still have to do in the name of equality.
