Growing up, we assume every hockey player had a favourite NHL player they loved watching and wanted to be just like.
The easiest way for anyone to be like their favourite player growing up is to wear their number in honour of that player. For example, kids growing up playing hockey in Toronto might want to wear the number 34 because of Auston Matthews.
That said, while 87 may be a popular number among kids, it's not in the NHL as only five players have worn it since the 1950-51 season.
What we're trying to get at here is that the number on the back of a player's jersey is much more than just a number and that a fan decided to make the best teams with current players based on their jersey numbers.
Reddit user simz1437 created ten teams, each with current players from a specific number range (1-9, 10-19, 20-29, etc) and the results were awesome.
So, which team is the best?
10-19, 60-69 and 90-98 all have stacked lineups (especially 90-98), but all three teams don't have a goalie, so they can't be the best.
In our opinion, 1-9 has the most complete team, but that's just our opinion. We want to know what you think, so tweet us @BarDown and let us know which team is the best!
