The secret is out: we love a good line brawl.
While it’s definitely not nearly as common in football, the Mississippi State Bulldogs travelled to the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford to play the Ole Miss Rebels in one of the most storied rivalries in College Football. Dubbed “The Egg Bowl” in honour of the Golden Egg that the teams started competing for in 1927, the tradition dates back to Thanksgiving day in 1901, when the two played one another for the first time.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Over the past decade, both teams have won the game five times. In a sense, this year’s game was a bit of a tie-breaker. With this much on the line, it’s no surprise tensions were high.
It was, however, a little bit of a shocker when a full out brawl broke out in the end zone following a controversial Ole Miss touchdown (that didn’t end up counting).
Every single player on the field was called for unsportsmanlike conduct as a result of the heated exchange, and while it was the Bulldogs were crowned 2018 Egg Bowl Champions for their dominant 35-3 win, we’ve decided that Twitter users are the real winners for the hilarious reactions they provided us with.
We’re not saying that we condone violence, but this was epic.
