Jadeveon Clowney’s talents seemed unanimously admired in the football community at the start of his career, but his numbers haven’t been as flashy as his abilities once were. Something Geoff Schwartz was happy to point out when Clowney clowned his former position.

Clowney joined the Cleveland Browns this offseason -- his fourth team in four years -- and he has the interesting position of getting to play with another defensive end who went first overall, Myles Garrett. It gets even more interesting when you read this article from Kevin Patra of Around the NFL.

In the article, it states that Browns’ defensive coordinator Joe Woods might play Garrett and Clowney next to each other on the defensive line, giving both of them to rotate in and face offensive guards instead of offensive tackles. That prompted this quote from Clowney:

Of course, no athlete is going to take kindly to being called “not an athlete”. It comes from the same vein as when people try to call any sport “not a sport” because it doesn’t fit their narrow view of athletics.

And as for Clowney? Well, maybe wait until you get back into form before you start tearing down an entire position of players that have probably in some way contributed to your lack of success in the past couple years. Otherwise, you’re making it too easy for anybody to slam you right back. Which is exactly what Schwartz did.

Ouch.
