One of the nice things about Vancouver is the proximity to the outdoors, allowing for easy access to scenic hiking trails. However, even with the gorgeous sights that can be seen, this one qualifies as unlikely: a lucky hiker happened across Minnesota Timberwolves forward Jimmy Butler, also out for a hike himself.
Being that Vancouver no longer has an NBA franchise, it might be the last place where anyone expects to run into an All-Star, so for that, this is doubly cool. (We are, however, still bitter about the Grizzlies.)
Now, getting a photo with Jimmy Butler would be enough to make anyone’s day, but that wasn’t even the best thing to result from this interaction. We couldn’t tell you what sequence of events led to this, but at some point, Butler was on the side of the mountain and gripping a tree for fear of falling.
No need to worry, Wolves fans. It wasn’t that steep, but apparently, he’s that afraid of heights.
After joining the Minnesota Timberwolves last summer, Butler averaged 22.2 points for his new team in an effort that took the beleaguered franchise to its first playoff appearance in 14 years. Clearly, the time off is well-earned, and how better to spend it than by taking in the Canadian outdoors?
Fans might prefer Butler to avoid situations where he fears for his life, but from here, he looks perfectly safe. In fact, we would love to spend some time hanging out with the star on the side of a mountain.
