Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby have formed one of the deadliest one-two punches in the NHL for well over a decade now.
The two middlemen have combined for 2,213 points in 1,823 regular season and playoff games that brought three Stanley Cups to the city of Pittsburgh.
The hype in Pittsburgh over the years has never been better, as the team was granted a new arena to strengthen the support of the team. Speculation arised that the team could move out of Steeltown, but Crosby and Malkin made the club one the of NHL’s elite after years of futility.
One diehard family adored the two superstars so much that they decided to give their son the first name of Malkin and the middle name of Crosby. Malkin Crosby Long is now two years old, and finally attended his first game in Pittsburgh back on October 26th.
Jerome and Courtney Long grew up Penguins fans in Pittsburgh. A few weeks prior to the birth of Malkin, the couple decided to name their son after the dynamic duo.
"My wife and I had a name in mind, but we changed our mind and I threw it out there," Jerome said. "I'm a big hockey fan, but she's probably the biggest fan of the house, so ultimately without her the name wouldn't have happened, explained Jerome to NHL.com’s Jeff Carpenter.
The Penguins organization has been very supportive of the name ever since the birth of Malkin.
Any guesses as to who his favourite player is? Why of course, it’s none other than Evgeni Malkin.
