The Miami Marlins have been struggling since returning from the All-Star Break, but they managed to turn things around during a recent stop in Cincinnati.

The Marlins closed out a three-game series with the Reds at the Great American Ball Park on Sunday and were looking to cap off their second three-game series sweep of the season. However, right from the get go it did not work out in their favour.

Before the game got underway on Sunday afternoon, Dee Gordon was approached by a young Reds fan holding a baseball. Thinking the fan was going to ask for an autograph or start up a conversation, the youngster ended up doing something entirely different.

Instead of asking for an autograph or greeting Gordon, the youngster decided to kick the Marlins second baseman right in the shin.

However, his mother told MLB.com over the phone that it was all planned and not her son’s idea.

"He's not the type of kid who would go up and kick someone. Dee Gordon was motioning Leo to come to him. The umpire went with Leo, and Leo said the umpire told him to kick [Gordon]."

Planned or not, this was still hilarious to see. Even Gordon got a good laugh out of it as he backed away pretending to hold his knee in pain.
