After five years of waiting, Paul Kariya got his call to the hall.
On Monday, the Hockey Hall of Fame announced Kariya would be part of the 2017 class.
Oddly enough, Kariya's long-time teammate Teemu Selanne actually knew about the good news before he did because he was a little busy avoiding sharks.
One of Kariya's post-hockey hobbies is surfing, so it might not be surprising that he was surfing before getting the call to those who know him well, but to others it might be a shocker.
Either way, he didn't get eaten by sharks and he and Selanne are going in together and we couldn't be happier.
