The 2017 MLB season has gone different ways for both New York franchises.
The New York Yankees enter Friday’s action atop the AL Wild Card standings with a record of 65-55, while the New York Mets sit 13 games back of an NL Wild Card spot and are 13 games under .500 with a record of 53-66.
The two teams just went head-to-head in a four-game home-and-home Subway Series and the Yankees came out victorious every single night. Losing four straight games to your rival is already bad enough, but the Yankees delivered one last blow on Twitter following their 7-5 victory at Citi Field on Thursday night.
For those of you who aren’t Game of Thrones fans, “bending the knee” is a formal act of submission to a king or queen and is a recognition of authority.
Perhaps they decided to go with a Game of Thrones reference because Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard appeared on the show earlier this month.
On top of losing all four games and the tweet from the Yankees, the people over at the Empire State Building rubbed salt in the Mets’ wound by lighting the building up in Yankees colours after the game.
