Wednesday night was a monumental one for the Pittsburgh Penguins as they raised a fifth Stanley Cup banner to the rafters before their opening game of the 2017-18 season against the Blues.

St. Louis ruined the occasion with a 5-4 overtime win and before the game, they crashed the banner raising ceremony, too.

Rather than waiting for the ceremony to be over, the Blues took the ice as the banner was still being raised to the rafters, and to be honest, we have no clue if teams take the ice early during a team's banner ceremony all the time, but based on the reactions from the hockey world, it doesn't seem as though that's the case.

Like we said, based on the reactions it seems like people were surprised the Blues took the ice when they did rather than waiting for the ceremony to be over.

You can't fault the Blues for wanting to get on the ice, though, after having to wait through most of the ceremony, and as far as we can tell the fact that they came on the ice early didn't seem to inspire any hot takes about them being "disrespectful."

It did, however, inspire some jokes, which was to be expected.
