During Game 1 of the NBA Finals, Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry silenced his critics. With 28 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds, Curry was the Robin to Kevin Durant’s batman.

During the post-game press conference, Curry was asked about a shooting sleeve he started the game wearing on his arm but eventually took off, and his response was one early-2000’s basketball aficionados will love to hear.

Curry admitted he low-key always wanted to be like Allen Iverson, and that was the reasoning behind the sleeve:

When one watches Curry handle the ball, there are actually a lot of similarities in the two players’ games. Of course, Iverson was a pioneer of sorts to today’s point guards who are not only facilitators, but also scoring threats. It’s easy to compare a lot of current point guards to Iverson, but Curry most definitely gained attributes from watching Iverson play growing up. Curry’s statement at the post-game presser just shows it didn’t occur completely subconsciously.
