On Sunday night, Wes McCauley went viral for arguably the greatest penalty announcement in the history of hockey.

The 45-year-old's emphatic announcement along with the fighting motion he did with his hands probably made him a fan favourite amongst hockey lovers, and that's saying something because fans don't particularly like referees.

As incredible as the announcement was from Wes, though, we probably should have seen it coming considering he had an equally incredible and suspenseful goal call last season.

The game in which it came was suspenseful as well as the Sharks battled the Kings late in the season.  In the third period with San Jose up 3-2, Melker Karlsson scored a goal, but it went in off of his skate.

McCauley went to video replay to confirm if it was a good goal, and he kept everyone in the building and watching at home on the edge of their seat with his call.

The dramatic pauses to add suspense to the situation worked perfectly to say the least.  San Jose went on to win the game 5-2 and clinch a playoff berth, but after the game all anyone wanted to talk about was that goal call.

It's probably safe to suggest at this point that if McCauley is officiating the game you're watching, don't be surprised if he does something amazing that once again goes viral.
