The Oakland Athletics and Minnesota Twins went head-to-head at Target Field on Thursday afternoon.
The Twins put together a late push, but the A’s managed to hold on to win 8-5.
It wasn’t just the Twins who ended up on the wrong end of things on Thursday afternoon, home plate umpire got the worst of it all.
With Brian Dozier up to bat in the bottom of the ninth and Santiago Casilla on the mound for Oakland, the A’s closer delivered a pitch 94 mph pitch that blew right by Stephen Vogt’s glove and smoked the umpire directly in the crotch.
We’ve seen umpires get hit before, but usually it takes a bounce or two before it makes contact with the umpire. This time, he wasn’t so lucky as it was a clean shot directly at his crotch.
