The Edmonton Oilers have historically been a classy and well-respected franchise.
Hall of Famers such as Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier and Paul Coffey have given the organization a fantastic reputation, and are still great ambassadors for the game. A gesture made by two Edmonton fans last night proved that their fans are apparently Hall of Fame caliber, too.
At last night’s game between the Oilers and Nashville Predators, a fan stated that an Oilers fan made a little Predators fan’s night by purchasing a Nashville jersey for him.
The following is the comment written on Edmonton's Facebook page:
Preds fan here. Just want to say thank you to the two Oilers fans who bought a Preds jersey for a young kid I brought to the game tonight. He was staring at a picture of a jersey in the program the whole first period and out of nowhere an Oilers fan came up and brought him his first jersey for no reason other than he really really wanted one. You guys have my full respect after that true act of kindness. He talked about his new jersey the whole hour drive home. As long as the Preds aren't facing you guys you have a new fan in Nashville. Good luck to you guys or ya'll as we say down south the rest of the season!!! Thanks again to whoever those two guys are. You made that kids day, week, and year.
It’s moments like this that make you take a step back and appreciate the beauty of sports. It can evidently be more than just a competition, as these awesome Oilers fans displayed last night.
For these fan’s sakes, let’s just hope the two teams don’t meet in this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs.
