Thanks to video games, fans are able to simulate and predict events in virtual reality before they happen in real life.
Ahead of big games like the Super Bowl, for example, EA Sports might simulate the game to give fans a virtual preview of what will happen.
As everyone knowns, the NHL playoffs begin Wednesday night, so EA Sports decided to sim the postseason with the help of NHL 17, and unfortunately for Canadians, the Cup drought continues.
Congrats to P.K. Subban and the Predators for knocking off Subban's former team to win the Stanley Cup for the first time in franchise history.
As per EA Sports, Game 7 for the Cup was a thriller and Viktor Arvidsson was the hero for Nashville as he scored in the third to give the Preds a 3-2 lead.
Filip Forsberg won the Conn Smythe as he finished the postseason with 12 goals and 23 points.
Although they lost, the Canadiens weren't the only Canadian team to make a deep postseason run:
The Oilers were two wins away from making it an All-Canadian Cup final, but they ultimately fell short.
As for the Leafs, Flames and Senators, they all put up great fights in the first round, but all three clubs suffered the same fate, a Game 7 loss in the opening round.
Toronto fans will be happy to know, though, as per EA Sports that the trio of Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Mitch Marner combined for 17 points in their first career playoff series.
Speaking of firsts, Connor McDavid tallied 26 points in 20 games during the Oilers postseason run in the simulation which really isn't surprising.
Another interesting takeaway from the simulation is the fact that of the fifteen series, 12 of them needed a Game 7 to decide the winner, so if the sim is anything like real life, hockey fans are in for a wonderful postseason.
