Sunday, the Detroit Lions announced that they had signed quarterback Matthew Stafford to a five-year, $135 million contract extension, effectively making him the highest-paid player in the NFL.
No one would deny that Stafford is a talented player, but considering the fact that the Lions quarterback has never won a playoff game in his eight seasons in the league, it is a bit odd to see him become the highest-paid player, above the likes of Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees. Well, fans and players on Twitter had plenty to say about the contract extension following the Lions announcement. Some good, a lot not so good.
Yes, it is a bit strange to see the Lions hand out that kind of money for a guy who has never really proven himself in a big-game scenario, but realistically, the quarterback market is pretty thin and you can't win in the NFL without a top quarterback.
You know who was the most excited to see how much Stafford got? This guy, because he's about to get paid...
