We live in a weird world. In the past, people could scream things into the abyss and they were never heard of or discussed again.
Now that we have the World Wide Web, you’re screaming into a amplification device where there are so many voices that only the truly bizarre ones stand out. That’s why you’ll see stories like this one, where the Oakland Athletics and Toronto Fire Services are beefing on Twitter. We love it, but it’s definitely a bizarre exchange.
The Athletics were just looking to brag about their rookie hitting home runs in three straight games, but Toronto Fire Service wasn’t having it.
We should point out that basically no one has a leg to stand on here. Yes, Matt Chapman has hit bombs in his last three games, but he’s also slashing .211/.269/.521 in the majors this year. He has some power, but he’s not walking much and he’s striking out a ton.
The Blue Jays on the other hand, well, last year’s playoff run doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things and the teams have nearly identical records this season.
Even though they weren’t putting out any fires, the Blue Jays were still happy to see their city coming to their defence.
