Tom Brady's first half performance in the Super Bowl was terrible, and he'll be the first one to tell you that.
That being said, his masterful second half in which he led the Patriots back from down 25 points to win the Super Bowl in overtime was enough for many to make the case that it was the best or one of the best games of his career.
It's really not outlandish to think that, but if you ask Brady, he won't agree with you.
As per Peter King of MMQB who asked him that question, here's what Brady had to say:
“I don’t really think that is necessarily the case,” he said, relaxing in ski pants and sneakers. “I think it was one of the greatest games I have ever played in, but when I think of an interception return for a touchdown, some other missed opportunities in the first 37, 38 minutes of the game, I don’t really consider playing a good quarter-and-a-half, plus overtime as one of the ‘best games ever’ but it was certainly one of the most thrilling for me, just because so much was on the line and it ended up being an incredible game.”
Like every person who watched the game, Brady recognized how incredible it was, but he doesn't think his performance was on that same level.
You can certainly argue both sides as the pick-six near the end of the first half nearly cemented Atlanta's win, but the fact that Brady bounced back and led his team back from rock bottom is enough to argue it was the best game of his career.
Either way, perfectionists like Tom will always find ways to criticize their performances, and that's why he's the greatest of all time with a lot left in the tank still.
