Take this in...Iceland, a country with a smaller population than the city of Halifax, has clinched their first-ever appearance in the World Cup finals.

Last year, Iceland became the darlings of the the European Championships in France after making it all the way to the quarterfinals, eliminating England along the way. Monday, Iceland officially punched their ticket to the 2018 World Cup in Russia after finishing first in their qualification group. This will be Iceland's first-ever appearance in the prestigious tournament, and you could just tell how excited fans were following the team's 2-0 place clinching win versus Kosovo.

Following the result, Icelandic fans performed their signature celebration: the Viking Clap.

Truly chilling stuff. Iceland is the lowest populated country to ever qualify for the World Cup. You can expect to see nearly two thirds of the country's citizens in attendance at the finals next summer.
