The superstar point guard apparently asked the Cavs to be traded during a meeting last week, and LeBron James and the rest of the basketball world was blindsided by Irving's decision.
While the trade request was shocking, the reason was, too.
As per multiple reports, Irving doesn't want to play with James and wants a team of his own to lead.
It's kind of shocking that Irving doesn't want to play with James anymore, especially when you consider what the two have gone through over the past three years together and when you look at the stars in Golden State who all make playing together work so well.
From a big picture perspective, though, it kind of makes sense, but then again, we've seen this movie before, more specifically before LeBron returned to Cleveland.
Obviously Irving is much better player now, but if last season was any indication, him leading a team of his own might not be as good as some expect.
Then again, he is one of the best players in the NBA and there's no reason to bet against him based on what we've seen over the last three years.
Plus, with reports surfacing that LeBron might be on the move again next summer, Irving is trying to do what's best for him and his future.
