We’re patiently waiting to see how sports video games transition into the virtual reality world and here is one of our first real examples.
The Minnesota Wild partnered with Visual to set up a game based around Devan Dubnyk that can be played by fans at the Excel Energy Center. To test its authenticity, the Wild had Dubnyk test it out himself.
The game is obviously pretty basic at this point but it’s an exciting start. Goalie mode in NHL 17 can feel a bit structured, because there are only certain moves you can perform, but eventually, this could change the entire game.
Hopefully some other teams around the league will start introducing this as well so other fans can give it a try. If it becomes as realistic as some of the other games available in the VR market, things could get very interesting.
