Edwin Encarnacion’s contract with the Cleveland Indians was made official today, as was his newest emoji ft. the parrot.
Encarnacion had become a fan favourite in Toronto, in part due to his signature home run trot (which he did very often), the “Edwing”. Encarnacion lifted his arm on one side, in a move that was originally meant to be like an airplane turning, but Blue Jays fans saw it like a parrot on his shoulder and that quickly become a trend on social media.
It even became so big of a trend that the team, and their manager, adopted it as well.
Well, now, it became so attached to Encarnacion that Cleveland has adopted it as well. With today being the day that fans can see Edwin in a Cleveland jersey for the first time, they decided to unveil a new parrot emoji for him as well.
Funny enough, Edwin was asked about the parrot in his press conference and he joked that he’ll have to speak to immigration to see if he’s allowed to bring it over.
All of this has Blue Jays fans very emotional.
In fact, Edwin looked pretty emotional at the press conference too, which he confirmed by saying how difficult this was for him.
