Very quietly, Tristan Thompson is having one of the best seasons of his career. The 28-year-old is posting a career-high 12.2 points and 10.4 rebounds. He would be a prime trade candidate for a contender at the deadline, if it weren’t for his own interest in being a Cavs lifer. (Seriously. We’re shocked too.)
On Friday, Thompson went off for a career-high 35 points to pull out an overtime win against the Detroit Pistons, and his teammates were absolutely loving it.
Things haven’t gone great for the Cavs this season, with rumours of discontent among veteran players and the team’s franchise player Kevin Love acting out in public. At 11-27, they don’t have much going for them in the win column at all, but over the course of an 82-game season, we’re sure it feels good to get back on track with a gritty OT win.
It’s nice to see Thompson have a good night for himself, although we’ll also note that he, hilariously, diagrammed the Cavs’ final inbound play of the game with a great deal of enthusiasm. It resulted in a turnover that almost forced more overtime.
