Expressions and clichés in sports are over used ad nauseam, mainly because it’s hard to answer the same questions and describe the same events over and over.
Still, a little effort is appreciated when trying to make a point.
Normally it’s the fans getting upset with players or media for their repetitiveness, but the roles were reversed today. The Tampa Bay Rays became tired of reading the same expression tweeted at them by one of their fans and they decided to call them out.
For whatever reason (Potentially being very hungry), this fan wouldn’t stop describing their lack of conversion as “Leaving chicken on the bone”.
Still, he stuck to his guns.
Honestly though, looking at the Rays roster and seeing that they have the 13th most runs scored in the league, there probably isn’t much chicken on the bone. We can’t imagine that lineup getting much higher than that in offensive rankings, unless they add some more pop from their farm system.
