Way back in 2014, major sports magazine Sports Illustrated made a bold prediction back in 2014 when they threw on their cover that the Houston Astros, or "Baseball's Greatest Experiment", will bring the 2017 World Series victory home.
Well, they did! Suddenly the prophetic article written by Ben Reiter seems to be resurfacing everywhere, with people impressed by the accuracy right down to the fact that George Springer, named World Series MVP, was the one they chose to throw on the cover.
Collectors everywhere had started forking out boatloads of money to obtain these suddenly coveted issues - one slightly damaged magazine is selling for $2,000 on eBay. As a result, Sports Illustrated has decided to reprint a special, limited edition commemorative issue on the 2014 edition. The cover will once again feature Springer, only with a more recent photo. Unframed, the issue is selling for a modest $19.95
As impressive as this is, the magazine wasn't completely perfect with their predictions. But we'll just forget about these.
Wonder who they've got for next year.
