Records come and go in sports, but some will never be broken. When you think about unbreakable records, you probably think of some pretty good ones like most career goals scored, most career touchdowns, etc. But just because you hold a record, it doesn’t mean it’s a good one. Here are some of the worst records to hold in the four major league sports in North America.
Errors Committed
You’ve probably never heard of the name Herman Long before, and it’s alright if you haven’t. The former shortstop was a professional baseball player from 1889-1904. During that span he played for the Kansas City Cowboys, Boston Beaneaters, New York Highlanders, Detroit Tigers and the Philadelphia Phillies. In his 1,875 career games, Long committed 1,096 errors during that span.
Longest Losing Streak
It’s been a long time since the Philadelphia 76ers even stood a chance at winning it all and it seems like they are still a few years away from being relevant again. The 76ers hold the record for the longest losing streak, which sits at 28 games. The worst part about holding this record is that they matched it in back-to-back years, losing 28 straight during both the 2014-15 and 2015-16 campaigns.
0-16
The 2008 Detroit Lions are currently the only team in NFL history to lose 16 games in a season. Other NFL teams have gone winless before in the past, but it was never during a season which featured 16 games. They might have some company in a couple of weeks, as the Cleveland Browns currently sit at 0-14.
Worst Career Goals Against Average
Not every goalie qualifies for this category, because some guys get blown out in a couple of games and never see NHL action again. However, when it comes to the goalies who qualify, Ron Low takes home the trophy for the worst goals against average in NHL history. In his 382 NHL games, he posted a 102-203-38 record with 1,463 goals against for a 4.28 goals against average and a .860 save percentage.
Interceptions
Brett Favre is without a doubt one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play football. He won a Super Bowl, was a three-time MVP, 11-time Pro Bowler, has a spot in the Hall of Fame, and owns multiple records. However, not all of Favre’s records are great ones. The 47-year-old former quarterback threw a whopping 508 touchdowns in his career, but he was also picked off 336 times, the most in NFL history.
Fumbles Lost
Like we mentioned above, not all of Favre’s records are great ones. Unfortunately for him, he also owns the record for fumbles lost with 166, five more than Warren Moon. However, when it comes to fumbles lost by a player other than a quarterback, Franco Harris and Tony Dorsett share the record as they each lost 90 fumbles during their careers.
