The World Juniors are on their final day, and the stakes are as big as ever. With Sweden and Russia battling for bronze and Canada and USA going for gold, the hockey powerhouses of the world are right where they belong.
Of course, with all these teams in the final four, there are a lot of World Junior alumni cheering on their teams from the NHL. We’ve seen Auston Matthews, Max Domi and several others tweeting about the game, but for many, it goes beyond that. For example, Artemi Panarin, who lost some big money to Patrick Kane on yesterday’s Russia vs. USA game.
Filip Forseberg also lost some money to Ryan Johansen in the other semi-final, as Canada defeated Sweden.
The Leafs are also getting in on the action, but not just the players. Matthews has a bet with Head Coach Mike Babcock, but he says it’s a lose-lose bet for him.
Here's some more of the Leafs talking about their bets and World Juniors experience.
With the amount of diversity in the NHL, this is bound to happen; we’d just like to hear more about what some of them have at stake. We doubt it’s anything as big as what Brandon Marshall and Antonio Brown bet this season.
