Russell Westbrook has proved on a nightly basis this season that he doesn’t need any other superstars by his side.
Westbrook has played like a man possessed all season long, and with 8 games left on the Thunder’s schedule, he’s not slowing down just yet.
On Wednesday night, the Thunder were in Orlando for a date with the Magic. Coming off one of his greatest performances of the season where he helped his team make a late run for the comeback victory, Westbrook somehow managed to top his performance with a historic one in Orlando.
Not only was it his 38th triple-double of the season, but he also managed to put up the most points in a triple-double in NBA history, as he led the way with a massive 57 points.
Westbrook leads the Thunder in just about every category, and he’s not on the level where people are traveling to see him play and fans in other buildings are cheering for him on a nightly basis.
After his record-setting performance on Wednesday, you can bet the MVP conversation got going once again online.
When Kevin Durant left the Thunder for the Warriors in the offseason, everyone thought it was the end of OKC. Turns out Russell Westbrook has just been waiting for his moment to steal the spotlight, and that’s exactly what he’s done this year. Not only is he having a year that basketball fans will remember for a very long time, but he also helped the Thunder clinch a postseason berth with Wednesday’s victory.
James Harden has certainly made his case for MVP all season long, but if Westbrook finishes with triple-double average, it's going to be hard to look anywhere else when it's time to hand out the hardware at the end of the year.
