Senators fans could barely contain their joy as their favourite team advanced to the Eastern Conference final, other than when these traffic lights got in the way.
On Elgin street, one of the more popular locations for sports fans to watch a game, fans made their way out into the streets after the game. Of course, they came to celebrate loud and proud as their team advanced, but they didn’t want to inconvenience anybody. In what is described as the most Canadian celebration ever (It is the Nation’s capital after all), Sens fans would run into the streets on green lights and promptly exit again once the light changed.
Believe it or not, this is not the first time Ottawa fans have reacted this way.
We had a man on the ground for the celebration of the 2010 Winter Olympics Gold Medal game and there was a very similarly organized celebration that avoided causing many traffic disturbances. It truly is a Canadian style of celebration.
It must be the road hockey. Everybody is trained to yell “CAR!” and get off the road so it just comes naturally in celebrations.
