The Detroit Red Wings will play inside a new arena for the first time in 38 seasons. Little Caesars Arena will replace the historic Joe Louis Arena and will mark the first game Wings home game not played at the Joe since 1979.
The Red Wings Twitter account has been revealing details about their new arena such as the new ice surface, and some of the spectacular street murals that will be located in and around the building.
One of the best features about the new rink happens to be inside the dressing room. Besides the historic photos of Wings legends above every locker stall, the Red Wings logo is absent from the ground.
Much like the Oilers new dressing room, the logo is located on the ceiling rather than the flloor. That eliminates the chance of uninformed members of the media, or children – like Justin Bieber did in Chicago– of stepping and disrespecting the logo.
Brock Lesnar also fell victim to the code when he was a special guest at a Winnipeg Jets game last year.
It’s one of those unwritten rules in sports that doesn’t make much sense to an outsider, as it’s just a logo that’s located on the, you know, floor. It’s a ridiculous rule, but we know all superstitious and odd athletes can get over trivial things.
The Wings will unofficially play their first game at Little Caesars Arena on September 23rd versus Boston before their home opener on October 5th against the Wild.
