The 45-year-old legend still wants to lace up the skates, and has even gone on record of saying he wants to play until he’s 50. If the NHL doesn’t work, he could always go play in the ECHL.
Earlier this offseason, Jagr set hockey twitter ablaze when he tweeted out these emojis regarding his contractual situation, or lack thereof.
He may be old, but durability hasn’t been much of an issue and neither is his point production. With that in mind, here’s a few more milestones for No. 68 is closing in on:
GAMES PLAYED:
Only Ron Francis (1,731) and Mark Messier (1,756) and Gordie Howe (1,767) sit in-front of him. If Jaromir returns for one more season, he could find himself in sole possession of the longevity statistic if he appears in 57 more games.
ASSISTS:
Known for his superb playmaking ability and insane levels of hockey smarts, the mullet man only needs 21 more apples to pass Ray Bourque for fourth all-time in assists.
He’d then have to record another 24 to pass Mark Messier for third. Given that he’s compiled 30 and 39 in the last two seasons, respectively, the ageless wonder would likely need to play another two seasons to surpass Messier, although don’t put it past him to tally 45 assists if he signs with a high-powdered offensive team like the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Here are some other noteworthy records that help build the case as Jagr being one of the greatest hockey players to ever play if you’re not quite sold on his iconic career:
– 5th in playoff points at 201. Needs 14 more to pass Glenn Anderson
–Tied for 8th in playoff game-winning goals with 16. Needs one more to tie Glenn Anderson, Mike Bossy and Chris Drury
– 9th in playoff assists at 123. Needs two more to pass Sergei Fedorov
– 11th in playoff goals with 78. Needs two more to pass Jean Beliveau
