There have been a lot of steals in terms of trades in every sport, but there is one that arguably stands above the rest.
On this day, December 26th, 97 years ago, the greatest baseball player of all-time, if in the prime of his career.
If you haven't already figured it out, we're talking about 'The Bambino,' Babe Ruth, who was traded by the Boston Red Sox to the New York Yankees for $25,000.
First of all, really cool to see what an "agreement" looked like back in 1919, and we'd like to point out that the word "cash" was added after the part about the $25,000.
Secondly, while that kind of money was worth a lot more back then, "cash considerations" as we have come to know them are usually involved in a trade involving a mediocre player at best, not the greatest hitter of all-time.
After joining the 'Evil Empire,' Ruth helped the Yankees win the World Series in 1923, 1927, 1928, and 1932. He also shattered a ton of records, finished his career with 714 home runs, and eventually got into the Hall of Fame.
The Red Sox on the other hand, who won the World Series a year before trading Ruth, didn't win another title until 2004.
